Southwest Airlines is buying 108 fuel efficient 737 MAX planes from Boeing.
Boeing said Thursday that the budget airline’s order for 737-7 aircraft supports Southwest’s modernization strategy and flexibility in expanding its fleet.
Southwest has now placed over 300 orders for the 737-7 in total, bringing its total fleet of 737 MAX planes to over 500.
Boeing on Wednesday reduced its full-year guidance for deliveries as it grapples with misdrilled holes in some 737 jet fuselages.
The manufacturer posted a $1.64 billion loss in the third quarter but its sales met analysts’ expectations.
